ESP Electricity, an Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO), was created in February 2008 with the acquisition of the established business of Laing O'Rourke Energy. Laing O'Rourke Energy started operating in 2003 and was the first IDNO to be awarded an electricity distribution licence in the newly deregulated market.
